Student kills boyfriend over N2,500 for hair plaiting

A student at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, stabbed her boyfriend to death after he refused to give N2,500 to her to braid her hair.

The suspect, Bukola Odeyemi, is said to have stabbed her boyfriend, identified as John Iju, in Iworoko-Ekiti, a town near the university where most students living off-campus live.

Witnesses said the murder took place Tuesday night in a place called the Treasure Base Hostel in the city.

It was further revealed that 20-year-old Odeyemi is a 300-step student of the Faculty of Biology, while Iju, 22, is also a student of the institution.

An account had it that the trouble began around 22.30 on Tuesday after the suspect allegedly demanded N2,500 from the deceased to braid her hair, a request the deceased allegedly refused.

According to the source, “the boyfriend’s refusal to comply with her request led to a fierce dispute between the two lovers, which eventually led to a fight.

“During the fight, the deceased is said to have gained the upper hand, a situation that forced the lady to stab her boyfriend in the chest with a sharp knife.

“The deceased, who could not survive the deep cut, fell to the ground, leaking blood from his body.

“The call for help from the neighbors could not save the man, because he died on the spot, in the tub of his own blood,” said the witness.

NAN also learned that the deceased’s friends had allegedly immediately rushed to the city police station to report the incident.

The public relations officer, Ekiti State Command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed the incident when contacted.
