Toyin Abraham Vs Liz Anjorin: Antar Laniyan, Iya Rainbow, Mr Latin, Others Intervene
After recently being fucked between two popular Yoruba actresses, some of their colleagues have gone into this matter.
Undoubtedly, the biggest problem in the Nigerian entertainment industry this week was the furious feud between actresses Toyin Abraham and Liz Anjorin.
Earlier this week, Anjorin had taken her to her Instagram page to accuse Abraham of sending a report about her to the Saudi authorities that she (Anjorin) had trafficked cocaine, which led to her being searched at the airport. Anjorin also claimed that Abraham often opened fake social media accounts to slander her colleagues online.
Anjorin, who had to boil with rage in the series of videos she published online, also claimed that Abraham gave birth to her baby in a traditional midwife and not in a hospital.
Shortly after Anjorin’s insults were published online, Abraham’s lawyers wrote to Anjorin warning her to withdraw her contributions and apologize to Abraham, otherwise, they risk being sued. As a result, Anjorin’s lawyers also threatened to countercharge Abraham.
In the meantime, Abraham also published a video showing where she gave birth to her baby at the Vedic Lifecare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the story in the video, Abraham’s delivery was performed by foreign doctors.
As the controversy continued online, many fans wondered why the “elders” of the industry did not intervene in the dispute, which they described as childish and embarrassing.
However, in separate discussions with SATURDAY BEATS, some industry elders expressed concern about the issue and showed that they had indeed taken steps to mediate in the crisis.
The President of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan, alias Mr. Latin, told one of our correspondents that he had spoken extensively with Abraham’s husband Kolawole Ajeyemi.
“As an elder, apart from being the president of TAMPAN, I intervened seriously. I made contact with the Ajeyemis and spoke extensively with the man. He told me that things would be settled,” Amusan said.
Actor and director Antar Laniyan also said he told Anjorin to stop the online attacks. The filmmaker, known for his discipline on-screen and off-screen, said, “Last night (Wednesday) I called Liz Anjorin and told her I wanted her to stop casting shadows on Toyin Abraham. Someone must also talk to Toyin to ask her to stop the outburst of rage. I tried to get in touch with her, but I couldn’t.
“Fortunately, her husband is a very good guy for me. I also contacted the president of TAMPAN, Mr. Latin, and he told me that he had set a date on which some elders would sit down with both actresses and talk to them. I just hope they will obey and end everything they do.”
The experienced actress Fausat Balogun, also known as Madam Saje, said she didn’t want to interfere because she didn’t know the cause.
She said: “I don’t really know much about the problem, but Iya Rainbow and I tried to contact Liz Anjorin to discuss the problem.
“Iya Rainbow called Liz Anjorin, but she said she would contact her (Iya Rainbow) to discuss the matter. I don’t really want to interfere because I don’t know what caused her complaints.”
However, actor Yomi Fash Lanso felt that TAMPAN did not necessarily have to interfere in the issue, especially as those involved were not its members.
He said: “The president of my association, Otunba Bolaji Amusan, has spoken in the video chat and I stand by what he said. Not all actors in the Southwest are members of TAMPAN, so it is completely wrong to assume that our leaders will have to fall into the feud of all actors, especially when the issue has become public.
“If an actor has problems with a colleague and does not consider it appropriate to consult the leaders of his association, but exposes himself to public humiliation through inappropriate actions, then the association of that member must take a firm stand.
“At TAMPAN we know our members and in due course, all names will be published on our website, which will be open to the public. Any known actor whose name is not on our website is not a TAMPAN member. So, if such an actor is inadequate in any way, the public should not mark us.”
In the meantime, Mr. Latin explained that the Association is trying to orient its members to how they can resolve their differences without bringing them into social media.
He said: “Most of the issues we have about social media in the film industry come from our ladies. We try as much as possible to make our staff aware that not all issues should be transferred to social media. In our association, there are many ways to solve problems before going to court or in social media.
“Unfortunately, most of these people are not our members. There is no way to punish a non-member; you can only advise the person who is eldest. Therefore, I and elders of the industry like Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri work seriously underground to make sure that the problem is solved.”
The Abeokuta-based actor said the association would no longer tolerate actions that put the industry in a bad light.
He added: “Very soon there will be a riot that if a member does something that has a negative impact on the industry, such a person will be punished. If you leave our organization, there is no organization that accepts you.”
A source near Abraham who spoke on the condition of anonymity indicated that some other people defamed in Anjorin’s contributions could also sue them.
The source said: “Some other parties will also sue Liz. As you may have noticed, Toyin did not answer her publicly, except for the lawyer’s letter and the video of the hospital she had planned to release anyway. That’s why she recorded the birth at all. In Anjorin’s contribution, she mentioned Toyin’s family and other people close to her. It looks like Lizzy is risking several lawsuits.”
